Winter Battery Maintenance From Yiğit Akü

The weather has started to get colder. It is time to take certain measures in order to protect your batteries from the effects of the cold weather. Battery manufacturer, Yiğit Akü with a leading-edge in Turkey in technology, gave vital advices for all drivers on how battery maintenance should be done in the winter.

Akıllı Akü Prestige, manufactured at Yiğit Akü factory and patented by Yiğit Akü, is a product that provides information on the battery and the charging system of the vehicle by the lights provided on the product. Thanks to Akıllı Akü Prestige, it is possible to take certain measures beforehand.

As the weather starts to get colder, there are many points that drivers should take into consideration regarding battery maintenance. Since the discharge rate of the battery will increase with dropping temperatures in the winter, starting problems are experienced. Moreover, the decreased frequency in driving the vehicle, may also lead to starting problems. In order to prevent such problems, first of all the (3) months periodical maintenances of the battery, as stated in the warranty certificate, must be made before winter. Yiğit Akü service experts list those that need to be done as follows:

  • Before the beginning of the winter season, Yiğit Akü Services must be visited to have the battery charge checked. The open circuit of the battery should be above 12.55V, and the indicator should be green when the acid level is correct.
  • The vehicle’s dynamo charge unit should be checked; because errors in the vehicle’s starting and dynamo may lead to excessive-charge or discharge problems in the battery.
  • In precipitation environments, oxidations may occur on the battery’s lead terminals. Under such circumstances, the battery may not be able to provide adequate electrical current. In order to avoid this, the battery lead terminals should be checked frequently and cleaned with hot water. Meanwhile, for certain large (Ah) types of batteries, the cleanness of the wheel nuts on the battery is quite significant for the long-term use of the battery.
  • It must be ensured that a battery that is appropriate for the electrical equipment of the vehicle, with the (Ah) values as defined in the vehicle’s warranty certificate is installed on the vehicle. In other words, a battery with the original (Ah) value, suitable for the vehicle must be installed.
  • Following certain undesired, small-scale accidents, the battery must be checked to see whether it has received an impact.

THE BATTERY’S IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT

A battery contains two major chemical (lead and acid) materials, which are environmentally hazardous.

  1. Lead is a heavy metal, which does not disappear in nature; it mixes in soil and water and influences the life cycle adversely.
  2. Acid has a corrosive effect, and damages the area where it is spilled, and impacts living creatures adversely. Moreover, acid vapors cause air pollution.

According to the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Control (APAK) regulation, battery scraps must be collected from the user against a deposit. Therefore, when the customers are buying new batteries, they must deliver their old batteries to the agent in return for a deposit.

Scrap batteries are transferred to the recycling plant by Yiğit Akü’s special licensed vehicles, where they undergo a series of processes and are transformed into lead that can be used again.
